Feature Request: Set per-organization or per-repo email address for PRs (web actions)

I use a single GitHub account for both work and personal projects. I would like to be able to configure GitHub to use my work email address for PRs to repositories in my employer's organization, and my GitHub privacy-protected email for all other PRs.

This could be accomplished by either a per-organization email address setting, or a per-repository email address setting. I can see benefits and drawbacks of either approach. In my current situation, a per-organization setting and a default for non-organization repos would be the most convenient, but I could imagine someone who works on multiple open-source projects that don't have organizations set up wanting to use a different email address per repository.

On an unrelated note, a moderator posted that feature requests should be posted in this community, but the word "feature" is banned from message tags in this community.

Thanks!

Wow, that is weird and should be looked into since this indeed is a great place to discuss new features.

As for your feature request, are you unable to pick a mail address when completing a web action? Or is this just purely about having a default mail address so you are less likely to use the wrong one?

Re: Feature Request: Set per-organization or per-repo email address for PRs (web actions)

I think at least being able to default to a particular email on a repo by repo basis would be good.  Honestly though, it's weird that the default behavior is to select email by action.  I think most typically, I'd like to always take actions on a repo as a particular identity [username + email].  So the ability to choose by action seems to be more of an edge case and the more common use case is not supported well (required to change the email account every action for a repo when that email is not primary).

Also, I believe there is at least one action where our primary email account is forced, but I can't verify because it is not something I can trigger adhoc.  If I do remember correctly: the primary email address is always used for merge conflict resolutions done via the website.

Thanks for your solid knowledge and thoughtful response to the OP.  It is also helpful to me.

I really would like to have this feature, too, or at least an option to manage notifications on a per repo basis.
e.g. my contributions to work related projects should send notifications to my work email address and not to my personal email address I use for other repos.

It seems noone from GitHub saw our messages.

HI @Mooninaut ,

Thanks a lot for taking the time to write this feedback, I've taken your suggestion and passed it along to the appropriate teams. Also, I was able to apply the feature tag but we'll take a look and make sure permissions are not blocked.

Thanks again!

Best,
