Stuck on step 4 on the Community Starter Kit(with a little feedback on it)

Solved! Go to Solution.

I am very frustrated and the reason why is listed below

1)

I am not have much luck with robot my very first post got delleted by one and  now I am stuck on step 4 (told me it was spam but i did get it fixed) and now i broke my robot comunitty start kit

2)

after much **searching** I can't find the info i want(but that 4 another topic)

3.)

***  I searching these form to find out  how to countinue with out writing this with out any luck.****

4.)**Read **in  other post that permision could be a problem but looking thou there setting it said it no longer uses them and now uses hooks. ***what ?****

5.) i feel like a lemming ....being to over-well-med by this big world

This leaves me with the following questions

1.)

I have read in the form where they got stuck to try to reseting there course how can I do that ?

Note:

I also saw that those who got stuck the maintaner said they have to manually push them foward and it was a bug even thought not for this course.

2.)

If you have instruction on resetting the course can you put them in the course?

3.)Is gethub learning lab using hooks?

4.)Do i need to worry about permisions?

5.) What otherthings can I try?

Thanks

and please forgive me if i did something wrong.

Re: Stuck on step 4 on the Community Starter Kit(with a little feedback on it)

Hi @frog-o! I took a look at your pull request. It looks like you merged the pull request without making any changes to the `getting-started.md` file. Since the bot was expecting a commit instead of a merge, it doesn't quite now how to respond.

I recommend restarting the course. To do this, go to the course home page on Learning Lab and click Leave course on the top right hand side. A box should pop up, with an option to check a box. Check the box that says Do you want to delete your course repository?

Then, click Continue and delete. After that, you should be able to rejoin the course.

Thank you for your patience, and let us know if you have any more questions. :)

Re: Stuck on step 4 on the Community Starter Kit(with a little feedback on it)

I looked in to what created my problem, Thanks to your commit above,  I beleave it because of Me reading the isuses first and doing what it told me ---> which cuases a merge conflict when tring to comment.  I think this is a bug and it should be reported.

How can I do that?

Better yet Is this course located publicly so i can make a pull request for it(and get practice on pull request)?

There other things in that issue  that could be change to make it more new user friendly.

Thanks

Re: Stuck on step 4 on the Community Starter Kit(with a little feedback on it)

Hi @frog-o! Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'll respond to your points individually, to try to do a better job not to miss anything.

after much **searching** I can't find the info i want(but that 4 another topic)

@frog-o has this been resolved? If not, what info is it that you're searching for?

I searching these form to find out how to countinue with out writing this with out any luck.

@frog-o I believe, based on your next comments, that this point has been resolved. If not, can you help me understand where you're stuck?

Read in other post that permision could be a problem but looking thou there setting it said it no longer uses them and now uses hooks. ***what ?****

@frog-o That had to do with a separate issue. Webhooks are one of the technologies that Learning Lab uses, and my guess is that the other post was referring to something going on with the webhooks. I don't think it's any part of the problem here.

I looked in to what created my problem, Thanks to your commit above, I beleave it because of Me reading the isuses first and doing what it told me ---> which cuases a merge conflict when tring to comment.

@frog-o Can you please send me a link to the pull request with the merge conflict?

I think this is a bug and it should be reported. How can I do that?

@frog-o You're in the right place! I'll look into the link of your pull request, and then if it appears to be a bug, I'll report it internally and start to get it resolved.

Better yet Is this course located publicly so i can make a pull request for it(and get practice on pull request)?

@frog-o I'm glad to see you're excited to contribute with pull requests. :) But, the course material is private at this time, so it's not currently open to pull requests.

There other things in that issue that could be change to make it more new user friendly.

@frog-o If you care to share specifically what you'd like to see changed, I'd be happy to pass that information along!

I am tring to resopnd to your responce in order an put number by them so they can be referred back to later if needed without copy and past..

Your welcome and thank for responding. I am hard to deal with an realy appreciate you taking the time.

The top portion of my post was just to explain that I have tried to search for my anwer l(like the other document on posting i read told me to do) and explain why my tone is not the best.

2) about my issuse in finding the info i want
It is still ongoing but not realy related to this post. It deals with tring to find out the reason for fork and maybe even discuse, forking in general. I feel that you should tell the reason for the fork and git hub should encourage you to tell the reason. It dose not look like github does this and requieres me to do a lot more posting to explain why i think it is a very important feature to have if it does it it dose not explain how to use it.

3) my issue with the course is still going on becuase i have not completed it yet but i going to mark it as solved because what you said should work for any problem i have and you also told me Github labs does use webhooks

4)I don't think i am still stuck. Even though I don't think reseting it is the best option and User friendly.

5)I can not send you a link that cuase the merge conflect becuase I reseted my course. However i beleave i can redublicate it. It told me in the issue to edit my readme file describtion and i edit the text in the readme file itself with the describtion there Instead of
the describtion of the file. I did not realise they where two differnt things opps.

7) The last Issue about what I want to see change are these things

1.)Add text into the issue #1 readme that states something to the like of "Becareful not to edit the text of the describtion of readme it will cause a merge conflect when I go and creates a pull request latter in this course"
2.) Add text into the pull request that states :"Becareful when You Commiting your changes in this tutorial you have to do this twice and the green commit button is located in two differnt spots the

1st) Spot in the code reviewer wich approve the textual changes of the pull request and commits the pull request to the add-doc branch. And a

2nd) time to commit the add-doc branch to the master branch for more info about branching see this video and (give link back to the one you created for you github tutorial) and or take our other course(give link to gethub-lab-tutorial)

3)If you don't see the green commit button after doing the 1st scroll down more on this pull request to see the button.

4) add Please also note: There also a differnce between a merge where your work with someone else and a comment where you just approve of the changes of someone else work without much modification.
"

I feel this should prevent people from doing what i done. I called it a bug becuase your do't want to hang the robbot".

I also want to add" In this course will be pretending you be working with mono in the team of devlopers etc.."

I want to discuse this more but I probaly should put this else where i would also like to see each lab link to a form post to talk about the problem and improvment need for that course.

****to sum up above more than what you should have to do *****

Please also note on the other spot on getlab community where it ask if you want to work on our course drop us a note I said i want to work on this course but did not go though this much details.

Thanks again for read and helping me on this difficault journey and i apollogize for getting a little of topic.

Re: Stuck on step 4 on the Community Starter Kit(with a little feedback on it)

I want to add a little more info on things that confusing me as I come across them to help others that might read this. I am getting a merge error on the bottom "merging is being blocked" error on the bottom. I am think now it just because I am reviewing the pull request and is not because I doing anything wrong.

Well that's not the case I had to review a change in order to continue.
