Re: GitHub Learning Lab Explorer Challenge Feedback Thread

I think that the platform (lab.github.com) is great. While I mainly participated for the badge and was not the beginner that the courses were made for, I can definitely see how some of it's courses can be useful to people new to Git and GitHub (especially the one about merge conflicts, that one was way better than how I learned it at college).

While I rather not nitpick too much, I have one little usability issue. When the video about a course is open (the one that opens if you click on "Watch video" in the top-right), it won't close if you click on the background. Because it was on the left and I'm not a macOS user (no pun intended), it took me way too long to find the thingy that closes the video.

Re: GitHub Learning Lab Explorer Challenge Feedback Thread

Hey, my quick thoughts on the Challenge:

This was a great way to learn about features that are included in GitHub I didn't even know were there, like GitHub Pages. The whole procedure of these Challenges being managed trough Issues was super useful to get more familiar with the workflow of GitHub for people like me who are just starting out.

I think the learning Lab is a good place to start learning about the core mechanics of this site, since starting out can be a pretty overwhelming experience with all that's available to learn about.

So thanks for this Challenge (which really was one since I only learned about it on the last day...) and keep it up!

Re: GitHub Learning Lab Explorer Challenge Feedback Thread

Every time I visit GitHub, I always felt like a small fish in an ocean. I felt so little, felt so behind. But things changed when I entered the GitHub Learning Lab Explorer Challenge, especially when I learn a lot of introductory stuff, and earned my first ever badge. Yahoo! It's super awesome and welcome new beginners like me.

I am hoping for more Explorer Challenge so that we can thoroughly be education and updated with GitHub, from the most basic to the most complex one.

Thank you so much!

Re: GitHub Learning Lab Explorer Challenge Feedback Thread

The challenge was a very good 'push in the back' to follow the courses.

The courses were very nice too. Very good interaction from the system, based on the actions you did in regards to the actions you should be doing.

Ex. With the second course I accidently modified the file incorrectly. As feedback I directly received, there we're some issues regaring the content and the course could not proceed to the next step.

After modifying the content, everything picked up again.

Love to see some more courses (maybe motivated to follow bij chanlanges ;))

Re: GitHub Learning Lab Explorer Challenge Feedback Thread

I agree with jmerle, I'm not the new user these are aimed at, but I happen to think that reminders are always good, no one is so experienced at anything that returning to the basics is a bad idea. Sometimes we forget them as we fall into other habits.

The challenge was a nice introductory one, and I like the structure of the learning labs.
