According to the documentation here the current build of Xcode 11 supported on macOS containers is 11M382q, which is beta 5, which is very outdated. The GM Seed 2 is out as of Monday. How often will the containers be updated with the latest Xcode versions? This is a pretty big show stopper for iOS developers who will be using CI on here.
We plan to release updates approximately weekly. The macOS environment will be updated with Xcode 11 GM Seed 2 within the next few days.
Awesome, thanks for the quick reply. In the case of Xcode GMs, in a lot of cases it’s critical for developers to submit their updates as soon as the GMs become available in order to get our apps in the store for new versions of iOS. I worry that with a weekly cadence that will rend using CI not nearly as effective. Is this going to be a consideration? We’re currently evalutating using GitHub for our new CI platform and the timeliness of releases is a big consideration, as it is for other developers as well, I imagine.
@kaylangan Any updates on this? The GM seed’s been out for over a week and iOS 13 was released last Thursday. I don’t want to be a pain, just curious what the plan is for these mission critical updates are for macOS/iOS developers.
Apologies for the delayed reply. The deployment containing GM Seed 2 started last Wednesday and reached all accounts on Friday (9/20). Docs will be updated shortly. iOS 13 will be contained in the next deployment.
As for your question about cadence, you should continue to expect approximately weekly updates. I understand that you would love to have software available as soon as it’s released. Unfortunately, it takes about one working day to build, validate, and test a new image that contains the new software, then a few more days to deploy to all accounts following safe deployment practices.
Thanks for letting me know the GM Seed’s been updated! Much appreciated.
Totally makes sense about the cadence. Just wanted to put that out there as it’s definitely a consideration.
Hi @kaylangan, any news about Xcode 11.1 GM?
It will be coming in the update that rolls out next week. We ran into some incompatibility with Carthage so we are working on that this week.
@kaylangan other than runs-on: macos-latest, may I know how can I specify the version of xcode in the github action script? Thanks
You can set the xcode version via an environment variable. You can find the available version here in the XCode table: https://help.github.com/en/articles/software-in-virtual-environments-for-github-actions#macos-1014.
This is the latest version listed 11.0 GM seed 2 11A420a
env: DEVELOPER_DIR: /Applications/Xcode_11.app
Thank you, @chadgarrett!
You can try:
/bin/bash -c "sudo xcode-select -s /Applications/Xcode_8.3.3.app/Contents/Developer"
When will the xcode 11.2 be out?
Do you still update weekly?
And the same with 11.2.1 GM as this is the onæy version we can ship to the AppStore with.
