Uploading profile picture returns "Something went really wrong and we can’t process that picture."

Hi there,

everytime I try to upload a new profile picture at GitHub it returns the given error message, no matter if png or jpg, no matter what size or browser. Any ideas?

Thank you,

No clue here, you might want to contact GitHub Support for private problems related to your account.

I am having the same problem, and by using Chrome dev tools i see that, upon trying to upload the picture, the  related service replies “503 service unavailable”

Using a smaller image and changing from PNG to JPG worked for me when I ran into this.

This may be because of your IP address, try using a VPN to change your IP.

The same thing is happening to me. I’m trying to upload an image of Pikachu on dandom 2020 in github.

Staff could you fix github please?

I have had the same issue when uploading GIFs to Github.

For me, it was caused by having FoxyProxy on (a Chrome extention), even though I wasn’t passing it through any proxy. Disabling it solved the issue.

If you have some sort of proxy on, it might be the issue.

It seems like if there is any kind of proxy between you and GitHub, image uploads fail… I did some testing with this at work and home with Squid and Smoothwall. Both produced the same result even with no filtering.
