Uploading a PDF to website hosted on GitHub

I am trying to upload a PDF to my website so that when the user clicks a link, it downloads straight to their computer. However, when I upload the file to my repository and then I enter the URL, it just takes me to the ‘Page not found’ page on my website.

The name of the file is synergy_customer_service_customer_support_2020.pdf and it is uploaded to the ‘downloads’ folder of my repositry. I am trying it make it accessible it via the following URL: synergyoutsourcingltd.co.uk/downloads/synergy_customer_service_customer_support_2020.pdf

I have tried uploading the file directly to this folder using GitHub and I have also tried commiting the file to my repository using Git. But neither has worked.

Would any of you know what I am doing wrong and what I need to do to make this work?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there! Welcome to the Community!

Something has likely changed since you posted this because:

  1. https://synergyoutsourcingltd.co.uk/downloads/synergy_customer_service_customer_support_2020.pdf is working now

  2. but synergyoutsourcingltd.co.uk is not pointing to GitHub’s servers

In general, either of the solutions you describe should have worked. It’s possible your GitHub Pages repository was set up to publish from the gh-pages branch and you were pushing the file to the master branch, or some similar situation.

At any rate, I’m glad you were able to get this working wherever it’s hosted!
