Unable to paste in Safari 14

I’m using Codespaces on Safari 14 (macOS Big Sur) and I can’t paste in the editor with cmd+V - when I’m copying from a different browser tab. Pasting via right-click context menu works, with a strange flow:

with cmd+V

  • Copy text you want to paste
  • In the Codespaces editor, press cmd+V
  • Safari shows a funny looking context menu with “paste” as the only menu item
  • Click on paste - and nothing happens

with right-click context menu

  • Copy text you want to paste
  • In the Codespaces editor, right click to open VS Code context menu
  • Click on paste in the VS Code context menu
  • Safari shows a funny looking context menu with “paste” as the only menu item
  • Click on paste - and paste is working!

Edit: Note that copying and pasting within Codespaces is working perfectly. Copying from external source and then pasting in Codespaces isn’t.

So cmd+c works, but not cmd+v? This seems like a potential browser bug with Safari in the current Big Sur beta

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I’m copying from a different browser tab - external to Codespaces. Updating original post.

Copying from the Codespaces editor and pasting inside Codespaces is working perfectly. All combinations of keyboard and context menu work, and Safari does not show the weird single-item context menu.

Could be related to https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/pull/101702 which fixed a copy paste issue specifically on iPadOS.

Hi,

This appears to be working for me now in Big Sur Beta 8 with Safari 14. Could you please try again?

Thanks,
Vincent
