Unable to log into GitHub

I am pretty new to GitHub, so that may explain it. I use GitHub on two computers sitting right next to each other. I can log in on my desktop where I signed up for a GitHub account, but I have difficulty signing in on my laptop. I get an error message saying that my username or password are incorrect.

I had this issue a couple of weeks ago, and I managed to solve it somehow. I signed out of my account on desktop and somehow got to “authenticating device” window on my laptop. After that I had no issues logging in on either computer for 2 weeks. Now I cannot log in again. I know it’s not a password issue because I have no difficulty signing in on my desktop. I am not getting “authenticating device” option now. If you guys have any ideas I’d be grateful for any help.

Thank you,

 Welcome!

The most likely cause of this is an extension on your laptop is autofilling incorrect credentials at the last minute. Try again in a browser you don’t usually use for GitHub, or a Private Browsing/Incognito window. If that works, you just need to fix your autofill details.

yup, it’s not a problem signing in for multiple devices,

as for me, I am signed in here on my laptop, the other one on the other room my PC, and iMac when I’m on site for work

Thank you very much for your response. I was chatting with IT at work about something unrelated and mentioned my GitHub. The IT guy asked me if I changed my network password on my work laptop. I told him yes, and he said that’s probably the issue. I need to re-authenticate my work laptop. The problem is that I can’t figure out how I did it last time… Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Nothing except your GitHub username and login credentials are required to login.

When you try to login, what error message do you see?

Incorrect username or password. I copy and paste password, so it’s not the problem. I tried using a different browser, but I had the same problem.
