Tracking source code in github

Hello everyone. My name is Lwandile and I’m new to Github. I have a question: What does this statement mean?
“A few of the source codes should be tracked on GitHub repositories. You need to document the tracked files that are ignored during the final push to the GitHub repository”
this is part of my web dev assessment and I don’t understand how to track source codes in git.
kindly assist, thanks.
