Hello, everyone! I’m Thomas, your community manager in charge of the Code to Cloud section of the GitHub Community. Welcome to the first C2C update.
Every 2 weeks I’ll be bringing you news, updates, bug reports, gotchas, and hot takes from inside the Actions and Packages teams here at GitHub. I’ll also be highlighting any cool projects from people across the C2C ecosystem, so if you’ve got any cool Actions you’ve found that you’d love to share, send 'em my way!
Reuseable workflows are now in Beta! Gone are the days of copy and pasting YAML into each of your repos. Actions Workflows can now be re-used across repositories. Check out the documentation on getting started with reusable workflows right here.
Save the date! GitHub Universe is coming soon. Universe is running on the 27th and 28th of October. Registrations aren’t open quite yet but you can head on over to the Universe site to join the mailing list to be notified when it goes live.
API authentication via query parameters is being deprecated. The final removal date is October 6th at 14:00 UTC. Any workflows you have that authenticate with the GitHub API using the
GITHUB_TOKENvia query parameters will start to fail, so make sure you’ve updated any affected workflows by then. If you’re not sure what changes you need to make this post on the GitHub Developer blog has recommendations for different scenarios.
Documentation issue around updating Actions on an Enterprise Server: Previously our documentation said that bundled actions would be updated when you updated your Enterprise Server instance. Our support team discovered this isn’t the case though, any actions will need to be updated manually using
actions-sync. If you’re running into trouble using the latest version of a bundled action then let your Enterprise admin know that they might need to update the bundled actions too!
That’s it for this week! How’d I do? This is my first ever update as a brand new community manager so I’d love to hear your feedback.
What would you like to see more of in these updates, and what could I do better for next time? Leave a comment below with your thoughts and I’ll see you next time for the pre-universe C2C update.
