Show first/last name instead of account name

We are using Github for our company. When viewing the commits I would like to see the author’s first/last name rather than their account name. This is cause some account names are cryptic and we’d like to know the author by scanning the history rather than having to hover over each username.

Is there a setting that enables this?

We do have a feature similar to this for comments but not commits on private repositories in organizations. But there isn’t a feature exactly like what you describe, no.

Let us know if you have more questions.

Any chance the github staff can revisit this?

It is not ideal to go through pull requests and commits and see people’s github account name instead of their publicly available name. On github you can mouseover, but in emails and in slack integrations you can’t.
