Repository shows contributor but it hasn't any contributor

Hello dear GitHub-Community.
This is my first question in this forum and I generally don’t work with GitHub that often so please keep that in mind.

I have a question regarding one of my repositories ( On the right side with the headline ‘Contributors’ are 2 named. One Contributor is of course myself, but the other listed contributor is someone I don’t know. I tried to find out what he contributed to my code but there wasn’t any commit whatsoever by him. Maybe you can tell me how someone can be a contributor if he/she never contributed anything to my code.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards.

It’s because you made commits with a generic account at some point and that user has said generic email associated with their account.

  1. Goto the insights tab in your repo:
  2. Then the contributors tab:
  3. Click “11 commits” under fuzzy12.
  4. You’ll see 11 commits to the github-release branch:
  5. Look at one of those:
  6. Goto the .patch for that commit:
  7. Note the contributor: From: RasPi <>.

You’d have to rewrite the history of your repo and reset the author on those commits for it to properly show as you. Of course you could add as one of your email addresses but then you’ll likely have the inverse problem (things will be attributed to you that likely aren’t you).

Edit: You can search for how to docs on resetting it. Here’s one decent example that also links to some other details as well: .

Wow I didn’t know that. Thank you very much for the help. I appreciate it. I am going to read me into that.

Have a nice day.
