Repositories order

Before now all the repositories were sorted in a chronological order - the last updated repo was on the top of the list. But now all repos are mixed. Is that a bug or a feature or am I missing something?

You’re right. It’s a feature, but in my opinion it should be a bug, I really hate it.

@mpboom, what is the feature to which you refer?

I get the impression it’s trying to guess which repo you want to view.

Hi @allaev,

Could you clarify if you are viewing your individual dashboard or the org dashboard? I want to make sure I log your feedback appropriately.

Thanks!

Hello @angela-crist. Sure.

It happened only to the users’ repositories list. Organisation’s repositories are sorted as before (recently edited/created on the top of the list). Same behavior across different browsers and devices. I hope this helps a little bit.

I have the same feelings towards the new system.

In my case it shows some repositories from years ago which I wouldn’t like to feature prominently. I’m embarrassed to some extent of my old code, I would much rather show the recent stuff.

Edit: I’m aware that you can pin repositories in the profile page, I’m referring to the “Repositories” tab specifically.

Thank you for the additional information, @allaev. We’ve shared this with the appropriate teams. I can’t guarantee any change or share a timeline, but I’ve confirmed that the team is aware of this.

Thank you!

Hi @ohmnivore,

Thanks for this feedback! We’re always working to improve GitHub, and we consider every piece of feedback we receive. I’ve logged your feedback internally. Though I can’t guarantee anything or share a timeline for this, I can tell you that it’s been shared with the appropriate teams for consideration.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Cheers!

Hi Nadia,

Jumping on the bandwagon here. I’d actually like to see the repos sorted alphabetically, so my suggestion would be to add a 3rd dropdown for Sort, next to the existing Type and Language dropdowns. Then you could support all the requests from this thread. Thanks!

User should be able to decide order in which repositories are visible

There is the ’ Customize your pins ’ option at the top right.
Are you not talking about that ?

Weird stuff. It seems to be back to “order by latest commit”, at least for me. What’s even more concerning, archived repos end up anywhere, but should either be not shown at all (unless requested), or should be at the bottom. You archive them for a reason. Besides, they’re now read-only, so why would you want to see archived repos higher up the list than active repos?

Also, why when you select “private” (and not “archived”) you still see the archived ones?

In my case, the repo with the most lively recent commit history has ended up somewhere in the middle, and another one that I work on daily is 3rd from the bottom (on a list of 15).

I just noticed this post: https://github.com/isaacs/github/issues/895, which is a request highly upvoted for exactly this: being able to influence sort order.

But since Github doesn’t itself have a Github repo (why not? A matter of “Eat your own dogfood”, no?), it is impossible for us to know what is going on, what is planned, etc. Yes, sometimes a beta comes along, but wouldn’t it be nice if Github itself allowed PRs so that the community can help one of the grandest software-communities?
