R problems with AdehabitatLT: non unique dates for a given burst

I’m just trying to follow along with the AdehabitatLT vignette (https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/adehabitatLT/vignettes/adehabitatLT.pdf) on page 6~8. I have a bunch of radiotelemetry data gathered from 2011-2018 on box turtles, and I’m trying to calculate the Kernel Brownian Bridge values. But I’m stuck just trying to convert some dates into a as.POSIXct class. This data is only 1 turtle, so there shouldn’t be any duplicates over the years. During some years the turtles were found twice per day but the time was obvisouly different. The error that continued to pop up was: “non unique dates for a given burst.” Again I know some of the dates are repeated but the hour and minute aren’t so I’m not sure what to do.

n_1R2L11L = filter(all_data, Turtle_ID == '1R2L11L')
n_1R2L11L$Year_ = as.factor(n_1R2L11L$Year_)
coordinates(n_1R2L11L) = c("Easting", "Northing")
proj4string(n_1R2L11L) = CRS("+proj=utm +zone=18 +datum=WGS84")
n_1R2L11L = as.data.frame(n_1R2L11L)

require(lubridate)
n_1R2L11L$Date_ = mdy(n_1R2L11L$Date_)
## **specifying exact formats and avoiding training and guessing**
parse_date_time(n_1R2L11L$Time, c("%H%M", "%H:%M"), tz = "America/New_York", exact = TRUE)

## read in date/time info in format 'm/d/y h:m:s'
n_1R2L11L$Date_Time <- paste(n_1R2L11L$Date_, n_1R2L11L$Time)
ymd_hm(n_1R2L11L$Date_Time)

dd <- as.character(n_1R2L11L$Date_Time)
head(dd)
dd <- as.POSIXct(strptime(as.character(n_1R2L11L$Date_Time),"%M%D%Y %H:%M", tz="America/New_York"))

BB <- as.ltraj(xy = n_1R2L11L[,c("Easting","Northing")], date = dd, id = n_1R2L11L$Year_)

Thanks for the help in advance

Hello,

Did you end up fixing this problem? I’m currently having the exact same issue, and would love to hear about how you solved it!

Thanks ~

Hi,

Going through similar problem here. I’ve partially solved it with lubridate::dmy_hm()
