Pledging for feature requests

I am wondering for a long time:

Why do developers not growdfund for highly demanded features of their product?

Why is there no possibility to pledge for a feature that I need in a plugin?

Some software or plugin developers offer customizations for some extra money. That’s great at least it is possible. I also can hire a developer to implement some features in a plugin that I am using.

But what if this feature would be so useful for many other users?

Example: Here on Github I see some feature requests for plugins with more than 100 people, and the feature request was opend already 2+ years. What if everybody who needs that feature pledges just 10 or 20 $?

This would pay the developer for the time to make the code and everybody’s happy?

Would it be possible to integrate a pledging and crowdfunding feature in Github?
