Periodically, css/js return 404, shift-refresh fixes it

I haven’t managed to reproduce this consistently, but every once in couple of hours, my site would show an empty page. Despite that HTML loads, associated css and js assets files are not found. I usually need to delete browser cache or do shift-refresh to get around that.

If it matter, this is simple React.js application that’s powered by create-react-app. Here is the github repo.

Hi @remon-nashid,

I’ve just tried visiting your site, and everything seems to be working fine at the moment. That said, I know you said this is intermittent. Are you noticing this happening after you push? Or does it happen all the time?

It could be that your browser is serving a cached version of those pages from before they was successfully published.

To reset the cache in Chrome, you can use the keyboard shortcut Command+Shift+R. Alternatively, you could try visiting your website in an incognito or private browsing window.

It’s also worth noting that after pushing a new commit to your repository, it can take up to 10 minutes for the GitHub Pages build process to complete and your changes to appear.

If you try these items and you’re still having trouble, please write to private support so we can take a closer look.

Hi @nadiajoyce,

Thank you very much for your comprehensive answer.

The issue didn’t occur since I had disabled js serviceWorker. This is not ideal, but I’ve stumbled upon many issues when service workers are used with overly large js bundle files, so I’ll attempt to get around bindle size before re-enabling service workers.

Thanks again!
