Dear GitHub staff,

Below is payment section in the GitHub upgrade account page. As shown there are non-countries like “Antarctica”, etc.

Maybe change the label to “Country/Region” or similar to avoid controversy?

Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback.

Antarctica is listed in ISO 3166-1Codes for the representation of names of countries and their subdivisions – Part 1: Country codes, which is where I believe we get that list of countries from. I will, however, pass along the feedback about changing the title of the control to the appropriate teams. I can’t give an ETA of when it might be addressed, but the right people will hear your feedback.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the attention. As I got into several PR/issues related with ISO 3166 recently, I realized how sensitive this can be to many developers who understand “country” as “sovereign state”.

Most likely you already noticed some differences between the names and “short name” in the the offical ISO as well, but maybe they are not as controversial as the “country” label.

Hopefully this could be handled before causing unnecessary disputes.

Thanks again.

Friendly ping, as there seems to be no change yet.

As I stated before, I can’t give an ETA of when this might be addressed. I’ve delivered your feedback to the appropriate people.
