Naive question about describing files

I am an amateur-level repository builder, but a frequent browser of repositories I haven’t seen before.

As a browser, I’m frustrated that the file list shows minutia about the last changes made to them, rather than a high-level description of what they do. There seems to be no standardized way to describe the purpose of a file. Why is that?

Is there a way to surface a persistent description, so that the new visitor sees this in the file list:

soundmanager2-node.js     Create a node that maintains state information about a sound source

rather than this?

soundmanager2-node.js     Fixed unterminated comment that snuck into -nodebug build

Hi @lenshustek,

Thanks for being part of the Community Forum.

At this time, there’s no way to change the description that displays for a file in this way. That said, we do appreciate the feedback. We’re always working to improve GitHub, and we consider every suggestion we receive. I’ve logged your feature request in our internal feature request list. Though I can’t guarantee anything or share a timeline for this, I can tell you that it’s been shared with the appropriate teams for consideration.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
