Move a GitHub project from a repository to organization

Hello,

In the organization structure we created a repository and then a project inside this repository. Now we would like to move the project to the organization from the repository, so that other repositories could be added to it as well.
I could not find anything online. Could some suggest how to go about this.

Thanks

Hi @sunayana,

The ability to transfer project boards, whether repo level boards or user/org level boards, is not a feature we offer at the moment.

Thanks for this feedback!

We’re always working to improve GitHub and the GitHub Support Community, and we consider every suggestion we receive.
You can do so by submitting this through our official product feedback form so that our product team can track your request.

You can also keep an eye on our Changelog as well as the GitHub public roadmap to see features we are working on.

I’m looking for this feature as well.

Would’ve loved this feature too.

Indeed, it would be extremely helpful to document why create top-level Project with Repo inside vs. top-level Repo with Project inside and potentially warn consequences of making one choice or the other.

Yeah after blindly pumping in projects to a repo rather than the org, i’m now starting a cleanup project that after reading this thread is degrading to copy pasteland. Please, pretty please, make projects “movable” between repo and parent ORG.

I also degrade to copy paste land…. and making new projects

Ugh. I’m also in the same boat, created a Project board in a repository area and now realizing the limitations and have to move it to the organization level – meaning a lot of copy paste. Please make Project Boards moveable.

It would be great to be able to do this

Please add this ability. It is very painful to move issues and prs between projects.
