Master Thesis on digital legacy - Potential research focus on GitHub account successors?

Hi, I am currently working on my master’s thesis in interaction design on the topic of digital legacy. Now, I came accross GitHub’s feature for choosing account succesors in case of a user’s death and read through the “Deceased User’s policy”. This could be an interesting research focus for my thesis, as this part of one’s digital legacy might contain different meanings and values as compared to e.g., a Facebook profile.

As such, I’d like to ask if anyone can tell me more about when these features and rules were added, how they were created, and how they have been received so far?

And if this topic sounds generally interesting to anyone and you would like to know more about it, feel free to contact me! I will organize workshops and other design interventions for my project and I’m always on the lookout for participants

from the official GitHub Blog, it was posted May 11, 2020, we can assume around that time was the release date too

you can see further details here about the feature
