Macos runner running up pay meter while wedged

This is not the first time I’ve experienced this situation. Very weird performance differences between mac instances. 6x difference in timing for identical operations with only difference being python3 versions. 4m for python3.7 and 3.9, 24m+ for 3.8 in this run (+ 4m before it finally accepted cancel order). It seems as if I’m getting zero cpu cycles and no log tail response for me to see where it got wedged. Most likely pip install local wheel.

this is what a normal run looks like

And now I have to add more $$$ to my ceiling to redo everything again.

All the mac machines are identical. A particular job taking a long time might be because it got stuck or waiting for manual input.

You could add timeout-minutes and set it to like 5 minutes. So even if the job got stuck it’ll be timed out in 5 minutes. For more details Workflow syntax for GitHub Actions - GitHub Docs

How do I set timeout-minutes for the various OS? The performance of mac vs ubuntu vs windows varies greatly.

You could set timeout-minutes for each job regardless OS.
