Lost access to account

I am struggling with login into my account because my previous company mail is deactivated. When I was using it, I set a secondary e-mail address to my private one and I am able to reset password but it still asks for verification code which GitHub sends to the deactivated e-mail. What can I do? I don’t really care about repos but I would like to use that same nickname. Is there any option to do it or regain access to that account without verification code? I am wondering what’s the point of setting backup address email if I can only reset password but I can’t receive verification code…
