JetPack Issue wont authenticate backup email address even though it is a working email address

Jet Pack will not let me authenticate with a recovery email address, all that happens is that a screen pops up with the message

"failed to load your request token while connecting to Google Site verification. Please try again in a moment".

But even if you wait for that “moment” and “try again” it fails.
Can anyone help me with this problem? If so I would appreciate it
