I've messed up a new repo and am not sure how to fix it

I couple days ago I copied a Visual Studio project down from an old CodePlex project. I wanted to put it into a new GitHub repo. What I first did was create a new repo on my Windows 10 machine, in this folder: C:\GitHub\MvvmExample\MvvmExample. Somehow, at some point, another repo was created at C:\GitHub\MvvmExample\MvvmExample\MvvmExample. Now I’ve got two repos , one within the other. And I can’t get it to push to the new GitHub repo I created on github.com. What have I done wrong and how do I fix it?
