Issue only access/permissions

I think github doesn’t realize how simply amazing git-hub issues are. As developers, we want our sales/marketing teams and even many of our clients to use github issues. I can’t give our clients direct access to our code - it’s not open source - but the transparency would be amazing and I would love that.

A whole new giant group of git-hub users is just waiting to use what they’ve never seen. Create the issue-only access level and we’ll sell it for you!

Hi staff, perhaps you can ask your product team if this requirement will be achievable with planned Roadmap Q4 2020 Beta for
Role-based Access Control (RBAC) - Custom Roles with fine-grained repo permissionsy

This feature is of interest to me too, we’ve just started looking into using github for our source code control however with a small team of developers (5 - 10) and a large number of people that would want to raise issues and see their progress being able to have users with issue only access is a must.

I notice looking through the link on Role-based Access Control that it’s planned to be available to Github Enterprise only and will require each user with access for any reason (even just raising an issue) to be a member of the team and part of the pricing plan, this will likely price my small team out of using Github as the number of users that would only need access to raise issues far outweighs the number of developers that would actually be working with and updating the issues.

Bump.
This would be extremely handy feature. I really hope it will see the light of day.

+1 for this feature.

GitHub issues are simply fantastic, but it is a security concern that access cannot be given to (just) issues vs. access to code. Come on GitHub!

This will allow us to quit using other apps (Asana, Trello, etc) to share issues with our clientes

Considering right now to move to trello from GitHub issues just because this feature is missing.

We have a public issue board and want to add an internal one but not give everyone in the company access tho the whole codebase.

Considering right now to move to ClickUp from GitHub issues just because this feature is missing.

Have been wanting this for years.

I’ve used multiple tools because GitHub does not let me grant Issue only permission.

Access to things like issues, projects and discussions should be possible without granting access to the code. We’re looking at moving away from Trello and using GitHub for everything, but this might stop us.

I would definitely need that feature as well. I don’t like the suggested (Creating an issues-only repository - GitHub Docs) workaround to create an other repo just for the issues.

This would be a game-changer for us to use Github as a project management tool with customers.

Like @AdColvin said, access to things like issues, projects and discussions but not to project code would be really super!
