is Software Carpentry workshop worth the time & money?

Software Carpentry are organizing a workshop on the following:

Topics:

  • Automating tasks using the Unix shell.
  • Software Version Control (Git)
  • Introduction to Programming using Python

I am a novice at programming but I will need it in my research as a graduate student. Is it worth the money and the time to participate in the workshop? thank you.

I quote this from the email: “This hands-on workshop will cover basic concepts and tools, including program design, version control, data management, and task automation. Participants will be encouraged to help one another and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems.”

Hi @malyetama,

Thanks for being part of the GitHub Community Forum! We’re glad you’re here.

This post was moved to a different board that fits your topic of discussion a bit better. This means you’ll get better engagement on your post, and it keeps our community organized so users can more easily find information.

As you’ll notice, your topic is now here in the Project Development Help and Advice board. No action is needed on your part; you can continue the conversation as normal here.

Also, I wanted to jump in here, and mention that if you don’t get the help you’re looking for from this particular community, you might want to try getting help somewhere that focuses on on this specific workshop. It’s definitely possible another GitHub user might have attended this workshop and can help, but the GitHub Community Forum focuses primarily on topics related to GitHub itself or collaboration on project development and ideas. We want to make sure you’re getting the best support you can, but this forum may not be the right place for this particular topic.

Best of luck!
