Instruction adding an existing project are incorrect

Following the steps in https://help.github.com/en/articles/adding-an-existing-project-to-github-using-the-command-line will lead to the situation that rejects pushes at step 9. if the repository was created with a README or a LICENSE

Could someone correct this document?

Step 1 says:

To avoid errors, do not initialize the new repository with README, license, or gitignore files. You can add these files after your project has been pushed to GitHub.
