How to use CC BY-ND 4.0 for Repository that license is shown

Hello

I want to use CC BY-ND 4.0 license for a repository but I want that this is directly shown in the repo details like when using MIT license. How should a license file looks like that this is possible?

Kind regards

Ronny

Hi there Ronny! Welcome to the Community!

I’m afraid we can only display the type of license directly on the front page if you’re using one of the licenses available from the “Choose a license template” option:

https://help.github.com/en/github/building-a-strong-community/adding-a-license-to-a-repository#including-an-open-source-license-in-your-repository

At the moment the options are:

  • Apache License 2.0
  • GNU General Public License v3.0
  • MIT License
  • BSD 2-Clause “Simplified” License
  • BSD 3-Clause “New” or “Revised” License
  • Boost Software License 1.0
  • Creative Commons Zero v1.0 Universal
  • Eclipse Public License 2.0
  • GNU Affero General Public License v3.0
  • GNU General Public License v2.0
  • GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1
  • Mozilla Public License 2.0
  • The Unlicense

If you’d like to see CC BY-ND 4.0 added to the list of available options, perhaps you’d like to submit a feature request through our official product feedback form so that our product team can see that license is in demand?

In the meantime, you can still use that license, but people will need to click through to see the details.
