How to find or contact an owner of an organization? #22104
-
I’d like to create an organization with a certain name, but that name is taken. The existing organization is private, and to me seems empty. If it is truely empty I’d like to ask the owner if they would be willing to transfer the org to me. How would I go about doing something like that? I can’t even see who the owner is. Thanks, Oren |

You cannot find this information, only GitHub staff (and organization members) can. You could try contacting the GitHub support team and see whether they can help you. |

Hi @orenpai, Thanks for reaching out, we have a name squatting policy. As @seveas mention, contact support and they can determine if the name can be released. Best, |

I have the same problem - wouldn’t it make sense to at least allow to contact the owner? I am not looking for any name or contact address. |

@ knipknap I agree with you, contacting the owner directly would be more convenient and would definitely create trust. Though, the support knows well about the certain issues which might rise. |

Meanwhile, it would be nice if Github would only issue org names that map to an Internet domain name only if the verified email address is from that domain. |

Nobody from support has answered my request; it's been 3 weeks already. So, obviously, this is not working. I would be willing to pay for "premium support," which many companies could, I guess, to quickly resolve an issue like this. I thought that we are living in the cloud era, where companies don't need to consider hosting their own instances of GitHub/GitHub or something similar. |
