All i’m trying to do is share a text file with someone. This is actually a nightmare and a half. How should I go about simply sharing a text file with a friend.
You can add files to your GitHub repo a couple of ways. I’d recommend taking a look at our “Adding a file to a repository” guide.
Additionally, if you’re just trying to share the content of the file for your friend to read and access, and it doesn’t necessarily need to be in text file format, you can copy and paste the content and add it as a markdown file to your repo.
Let me know if you have further questions.
You can also post it as a Gist. This is probably the simplest way to just share a text file with someone. You can post it as a private Gist and then send the URL to your friend. They can comment on it or even fork it to their own account to keep for themselves if they want. Additionally, there are add-ons for many popular text editors that will allow you to store a file as a Gist.
