How do you find projects to work on?

I’m just wondering how everybody finds projects they want to contribute to. Do you browse around trending or something in the language you know best and pick a random one? Or do you look for projects of things you actually use? I’ve been looking around for something to work on and I can’t find anything that speaks out to me. My main languages are Java and Javascript.

Hello @annihilated,

This post was moved to a different board that fits your topic of discussion a bit better. This means you’ll get better engagement on your post, and it keeps our community organized so users can more easily find information.

As you’ll notice, your topic is now in the ‘Project Development Help & Advice’ board. No action is needed on your part; you can continue the conversation as normal here.

Let me know if you have any other questions or if I can help with anything else.

Greatly appreciated,

This is kinda a tough one. It really depends on what your motivation is. Fame and fortune? Learning? Good karma?

You might review some articles on “side projects”. I found this one interesting.

For myself I am most motivated to work on tools I use - if I stumble into an issue while using the program, I wanna be able to fix it! I have tackled a couple of things because I thought they were technically interesting/challenging, but have struggled with momentum sometimes …
