Github Signup page is unusable

I understand the desire for a cool website. But what Github has done for basic things like signup is basically unusable. I’m on Chrome, 91.0.4472.164 (Official Build) (64-bit) (cohort: Stable). I try to load the Signup page, and what I get is a starry sky slowly spinning, a blinking cursor in a text field, and a huge drain on my CPU. Like Nigel in Spinal Tap, I could go off and eat a sandwich, come back to the page, and it would still be spinning its wheels, draining my CPU, thinking about doing nothing. I had to unset a whole load of CSS to get the page to work, and when it did, it was slow as molasses. “W E L C O M E T O G I T H U

B

W E A R E A B O U T T O B E G I N A”

NO MORE! Stop with the special effects! I don’t want to render the latest Pixar movie in realtime! I want to create an account!

And after all that, it told me I already had an account! But I had to enter a six-digit verification code. And that’s a nightmare, too.

Digit… come on, let me enter more digits…

“No! You can’t enter more digits until I am ready!”

Github, come on! You’re supposed to be better than this! You’re GITHUB! You’re all about making sh** work! As in “just work”!
