Github pages not applying bootstrap styling

The blog is here: https://toneman1984.github.io/HeatherBlogV2/

Any idea as to why the bootstrap styling is not being applied? Basic vanilla structure is there it seems…

Thanks for any help. I know this is a basic question. This is a gift for my wife so I am wanting to get it set up for her.

Hello @toneman1984, welcome to the GitHub Support Community!

From what I can tell, it appears to be a pathing issue. Remove the forward slash at the beginning of each resource and it should start working again. For example, change:

<link rel="stylesheet" href="/assets/vendor/bootstrap/css/bootstrap.min.css">

to:

<link rel="stylesheet" href="assets/vendor/bootstrap/css/bootstrap.min.css">

If the changes do not take effect after pushing them online, you may need to wait a few minutes or clear your browser cache/cookies.

EDIT:
Just realized you’re using Jekyll. You should be able to adjust the pathes to the resources by editing the head.html file in the _includes folder. Remove the forward slash from the beginning of each /assets instance and you should be golden. Might want to check the other templates for this as well.

I made your suggested changes and it didn’t seem to work so then I checked around. I think it had to do with the _config file, specifically the baseurl and url settings.

author:             Start Bootstrap
baseurl:            "HeatherBlogV2"
url:                "https://toneman1984.github.io/HeatherBlogV2/"

The original baseurl had “HeathersBlogV2” so I changed it to “HeatherBlogV2” and it seems to be working. Or maybe it took that long for the site to recognize the forward slash change.

So I went to change the custom url to www.notesfromabiologist.com and now the Jykell theme is gone again… very strange. Went to change it back and now get a 404.

You might need to update url: "https://toneman1984.github.io/HeatherBlogV2/" in _config with your new domain.
