Github Desktop and VS Code Insiders

In github desktop, can you select VS Code Insider’s addition as your editor cause I couldn’t find it.

Hi @whippingdot,

The supported editors for Desktop can be found here:

I’ve seen a couple of old issues about VS Code Insiders in the desktop repository that suggest it’s supported:

I’m asking the team involved with Desktop for more information and I’ll get back to you as soon as I hear back on this.

The way this is detected differs between Windows or Mac installs.

If you’re using Windows

I’ve had it confirmed that this should be available in the selection menu if it’s installed in the default way using the windows installer, but may not appear if it’s been installed by way of a portable install or using chocolatey or similar.

These are the registry locations it uses to detect this, if you’re confident with registry entries you can check if these exist:

If this is a Mac install

We use the app bundle ID to detect its existence on the system:

You can check if this is a resolvable path by running the following command in your terminal:

mdfind "kMDItemCFBundleIdentifier === ''"

Kind regards,

Oops, I checked my github Desktop now and it came. Thanks for the help. :smiley:. I am really sorry. I tried after some time earlier too but it didn’t come. It has just came after about 5 hrs. Thanks anyways.
