Git lfs usage and limitations

hi, i’m a student of Pondicherry University, India, and i am doing my masters course project. doing this project i am stuck with a large file which has size over 4 GB that is needed to be uploaded to github for further deploying it to web services. do i have to get a billing for this? and are there any other options that i can do it for free?

Hi @hasim-sk

The maximum file size for LFS on GitHub Free is 2 GB. You would need to upgrade to a Team plan at minimum, but if your file is even slightly over 4 GB, you’d have to be on an Enterprise plan. You may want to consider a third-party cloud service for hosting your files.

Here’s some information about why we have repository size limitations.
