Git filesize error even though I only am editing the readme.md

I’m working on a repository, and today, I was made aware of some additional seeding commands that add a ton of data to the project. I just edited the readme to add the two commands to the install guide. When I pushed it up to the server, it fails due to the push’s large file size.

However, all I’ve staged is the hunk of the readme.md I haven’t even committed the large additions from the commands. That’s all local data that doesn’t belong in the repo. Git log agrees that the only changes I’m making are the text file changes, yet it always has the same error.

Any advice welcome.

It’s likely that the large files are still part of your repositories history.

You can follow this guide to remove the files from your history.
