Feature Request: Support Mermaid (markdown) graph diagrams in .md files

+1 for mermaid support, this would make md files self-contained, rather then pushing artifacts in the repository or rely on external sources to visualize a simple context.

+1 would be extremely useful.

Another vote for Mermaid support.

Edit: plantuml support would be great too. Gitlab supports both.

Any update on this? Is it even possible?

+1 documentation as code is essential in 2022

Currently I’m using CI steps to render images from mermaid code that I link to from my markdown documents.

This isn’t scalable and certainly sucks when writing wiki pages

Mermaid support is now on GitHub’s near-term roadmap (January - March 2022): Mermaid diagrams can be displayed within Markdown · Issue #372 · github/roadmap · GitHub

Thank you very much for share this loadmap!
