I think this is a classic case of burying the lead. I’m guessing that many interactive users want to see the projects readme, before poking at code.
This will simplify access to Github because random users just focus on the first thing they see.
If you want to bring in normal users and encourage them to partake in coding/dev, then shoving code in their face at the start doesn’t really help.
Make it an option, and voila - no pissed off users anywhere!
Thank you for your feedback! We’re always working to improve GitHub and the GitHub Community Forum, and we consider every suggestion we receive. I’ve logged your feature request in our internal feature request list. Though I can’t guarantee anything or share a timeline for this, I can tell you that it’s been shared with the appropriate teams for consideration.
Once again, thank you for your input!
I’d like to second this – is there any news in terms of plans to implement this or make it available as an option?
