Feature Request: Due Dates for specific issues without needing a milestone

There are possible usecases where I would like to set a due date on an issue for projects, but I don’t specifically want to attach it to a milestone or don’t want to create dozens of milestones with single issues attached to them.

I think it would be neat to just have a due date field on github issues so I could create one-off deadlines without needing to hook into the milestone feature.

As well, I think some notification methods would be useful so if it is a week out or a few days out depending on the timeframe for resolving the issue, maintainers of the project could be notified that the deadline is approaching.

Hi Iannonbr,

Thanks for this feedback! We’re always working to improve GitHub, and we consider every suggestion we receive. I’ve logged your feature request in our internal feature request list.

Though I can’t guarantee anything or share a timeline for this, I can tell you that it’s been shared with the appropriate teams for consideration.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

I also feel it would be great to have this feature. By the way, this had been discussed before here: https://github.com/isaacs/github/issues/432.

I agree, though more than neat, I find it to be a requirement for all the reasons stated in the linked mention from 2015, and more.

Is there a status on this?

I would say that it is a must have feature. I do not understand why it is hard to implement it.

totally agree that due date feature in issue should be a must-item since a deadline for an issue normally is dynamic that it won’t be easy to keep track of it using milestone. Specially using ZenHub this feature would make our life easier not to leave any issues staling

I’m also looking for this feature– it’s the only thing keeping me from using Github as a complete project management tool for our web team. Other version control platforms have this feature, so it feels like a strong feature for Github to have.

My company is also looking for due dates in GitHub (or ZenHub).
