[feature request] Cancel in-progress checks when a new commit to a pull request comes in

Anticipating a future when this leaves beta and the minutes spent in actions starts to cost money, I would really like an option to have new commits to branch cancel any previous checks running as a result of pull request events on that branch. In my case they’ll all be superceded anyway.

Hi @jaredly,

Thanks for this feedback! We’re always working to improve GitHub and the GitHub Community Forum, and we consider every suggestion we receive. I’ve logged your feature request in our internal feature request list. Though I can’t guarantee anything or share a timeline for this, I can tell you that it’s been shared with the appropriate teams for consideration.

+1    Definitely a required feature.

Here’s an Action that uses the API to do this for you: https://github.com/styfle/cancel-workflow-action

I agree, it would be useful for us to have this built in. Until then, this can be accomplished using an Action + the Actions API.

Is it there yet?

Yes, it is there, see Workflow syntax for GitHub Actions - GitHub Docs and look for cancel-in-progress
