Feature - GitHub post receive message on push

Hi there,

Is there any way to enable or create a feature (like BitBucket and GitLab already have) that will be build in GitHub to display a message from remote on pushing to remote:

  • new branch - URL for opening new PR
  • update to a branch that already have opened pull request - URL to opened PR

I know that it can be made by git hook with pre-push or some other, but that’s not the case.

It will be also awsome to be able to change in user profile settings to display or not this messages.

Thanks for any information on that.

The problem with Git hooks is that they have to be established per repo. (Yes, you can build automation to add them when you do git init or what-have-you, but the fact remains.) I thought the idea was cool though, so I tossed together a script and customization for my .gitconfig that does what you want essentially.

This is one of the awesome things about Git, personally, its modularity allows you to create tools and customizations that can significantly enhance your workflow.

Let me know if you have any questions about what I built!

Isn’t Github webhooks a means to access git hooks features?
