Did you try backing up your data and reinstalling VSCode entirely?

Dear Mark,

I didn’t try to uninstall Visual Studio 2017 Community edition (version 15.5.4) on my Windows 7 SP1 64bits machine (build 7601) since all the installed packages are near 20 Gb. I can run a repair, but it may take some hours.

The information about the issue is:

PackageId:GitHub.VisualStudio;PackageAction:Install;ReturnCode:-2146232800;

Package ‘GitHub.VisualStudio,version=2.3.6.391’ failed to install.

Well, then you’ll probably want to file an issue here: https://github.com/github/VisualStudio and/or here: https://github.com/Microsoft/vscode.

Dear Mark,

It looks like an issue with Github extension 2.3.4.54.

Why do you think it’s an issue with Visual Studio 2017 Community edition?

Best regards,

Pedro

Oh, I’m sorry - I skipped to the error messages too fast and didn’t notice you were talking about VS studio, not VS code…

Then you should probably report this at the GitHub page for the extension since avery specific update mad eveerything fail? But I don’t really know.

Good luck!

I’m not sure if you have had a chance to check this out, but we opened an issue in our repository detailing different problems with the installer and common solutions: https://github.com/github/VisualStudio/issues/1394. I encourage you to see if there any any similar problems to yours and try the recommended solution.

If you are still having problems after that, I can escalate this issue to our contacts at Microsoft, as they are the ones who provide the installer.
