Editing an existing function for my thesis

Greetings! I hope you’re all doing great

For my thesis I averaged vglm models with the full-model method, and I needed to calculate the unconditional standard errors and confidence intervals for my averaged estimates. For this, I found the par.avg/MuMIn function, which does exactly this only for “natural avearging” instead of full-model averaging. To obtain the unconditional se and ci for full model averages, I edited (very minimally) the code for par.avg.
Can I use this edited code? Can I publish my results using this edited code? Also, I want to contact the function’s author to inform them about this, but I can’t find their contact info. Does someone know how to contact them?

Thank you very much in advance.

That depends on the license for the original code. I’m not familiar with the method, but common locations to find license information are:

  • A file called LICENSE or COPYING in the repository.
  • A comment at the top of the file.
  • A Readme file.

If you look at the Git history (git log) there should be an author email address for each commit, unless they specifically decided to use one that doesn’t work for mail.

Thank you very much!
