Doubt about the .git, .gitattributes and .gitignore file locations while using the Unreal Engine with GitHub Desktop

Hey everyone, I’m a rookie game developer and I’m trying to create a repository for an Unreal Engine project of mine (v4.20).
I’ve got GitHub Desktop installed and I’ve already initialised Git LFS using Git Bash since I know I’ll be needing it. However, when I created my repository and entered my project’s file location (the location where you see the Build, Config, Content etc. folders), a new folder with my repository’s name was created in that location. This folder contains the .git folder, .gitattributes file, and .gitignore file (Unreal Engine default, selected from GitHub Desktop) inside it. Based on what I’ve seen on online tutorials, the .git folder normally appears in the same location as the Build, Config and Content folders, which is why I’m wondering if I’m doing something wrong.
If anyone could guide me here I’d really appreciate it. Cheers!
