Disable email posting to repo? Users "Out of office" making comments into the project repo

We have a member that is subscribed contributor to our project and set their out of office for the july 4th vacation and forgot to select the “do not reply to internet emails”.   While he is on vacation, every activity on the repository is triggering an “out of office” message to be replied to and appended to the issue.

I’ve already removed the user from the organization temporarily… Also deleted the “Email” Service under Integrations and Services Settings on the repo…   Both these do not seem to work to calm the out of office response…

It seems like the “sender” is the same email… but the “reply-to” is some special email address that allows the message to go to the correct repo…  maybe that’s why the out of office can’t tell it’s the same “person” (GitHub) sending the emails…

Out of ideas, anyone have any thoughts on how to fix this?

No, I don’t think you can do that. You can however, do these two things from your end:

  1. Ask users to turn off e-mail notifications when they’re out of office
  2. Ask users to add a filter so everything  @github.com does not receive an OoO reply

But if you don’t have any control over that I don’t think there is much else you can do.

Hi Mark. Thanks for the response! I think he forgot to set the option to not reply. We’ll just deal with this for another few days
