Can't clone an organization repo in GitHub Desktop

I’m trying to clone an organization repo using GitHub Desktop, but I can’t manage.

If I use the “Open with GitHub Desktop” open from the Code button on the repository page on GitHub, then GitHub Desktop opens and asks me to authenticate. No matter if I use my GitHub username & password, or generate a new PAT and use that as the password, I am always getting “Authentication failed” windows, even after repeated tries.

The same happens if I chose “Clone repository” from the GitHub Desktop file menu, and then use the “URL” option.

If I use “Clone repository” from the GitHub Desktop file menu, and then use the “GitHub.com” option, the organization repos do not show up. (The org repos to another organization I am member in, do show up.)

If I go onto the GitHub site and open the applications settings page (Sign in to GitHub · GitHub), and choose GitHub Desktop, there is no option to request organization acces. (While it is for other applications, for example GitKraken.)

Am I misunderstanding? Is my organization blocking GitHub Desktop? Or am I just doing things wrong? All interfaces offer terribly little information to help me fix the problem…
