Can someone please help as I am new and still learning. On GitHub Lab

Can someone please help as I am new and still learning. On GitHub Lab, I had been trying to commit a file (before Christmas 2018) however somehow, the “bot” didn’t close and I had some error as well as being completely confused on what to do next.

Unsure now if this file is complete or do I now need to open a pull request?

Hi @petraradtuc

This post was moved to a different board that fits your topic of discussion a bit better. This means you’ll get better engagement on your post, and it keeps our community organized so users can more easily find information.

As you’ll notice, your topic is now here in the GitHub Lab board. No action is needed on your part; you can continue the conversation as normal here.

Hi @petraradtuc,

Are you still having a problem commiting your file? What error are you recieving?

Yes, I am still having problems and to be honest, I am completely lost.

In GitHub Lab, I had been doing the Introduction to GitHub. On step 5, Commit a file, I had also created a new file but, which by the way, had been done before Christmas. Apparently now, I am unsure if I still need to Commit a File or Step 6 - Open a Pull Request? Also, when you open a Pull Request - it says, “open the CODE Tab” - where is the code tab?

I am lost and don’t know where to go from here?

The last email I had received (although I cannot remember from who) had stated that it is something to do with a bot and that this has now been closed?

Can you PLEASE clarify or help me in this direction.

Hi @petraradtuc! Sorry to hear that you’re still having trouble.

The Code tab is one of the tabs at the top of your repository:

It sounds like you want to open a new pull request from your branch. You can do that by selecting your branch:

And then clicking the New pull request button right beside it.

Let me know if this clears things up!

Yes, this has cleared things up perfectly BUT it comes up as VIEW PULL REQUEST and on the bottom of this, where it says “contributor” - is says, “verified & no”

so, does this mean that this has already been done/completed?

I’m still lost

Hey there, @petraradtuc! I see that you’ve opened pull requests, but Learning Lab is looking for a specific pull request. I recommend taking the following steps:

  1. Close the two pull requests you’ve currently got open.
  2. Open a new pull request using @jasonetco’s instructions above, make sure you choose base:master and compare:petraradtuc-patch-2
  3. You will probably see some similar messaging as the one you mentioned (because a pull request already exists and GitHub is aware), but still click the button to create the pull request.
  4. The bot should then pick up on your new PR.

If this still doesn’t work, then your best bet might be to unregister from the course and start over. Happy to help you do that, as well.

Can you please unregister me from the course and I will have to start all over again. Unless I don’t understand what I am doing, I just wont get it! Sorry :frowning:

Can you let me know when this is done so I can start over ASAP. I have also printed off a sheet so I can follow this step-by-step also

You can unregister by going to the course, (1) clicking on  Leave Course on the top right, (2) checking the box to delete your repo, and (3) clicking on the confirmation button.
