Can deleted release notes be restored?

In an attempt to clean up my projects git tags, I performed some

git tag -d tagname
git push --delete origin tagname

operations. I turned out that this silently also deletes the attached release notes on the project page. Which makes sense, BTW, but simply was not considered as side effect by me.

Is there any way to restore these notes?

I tried the following things:

  • Checking web crawler caches (no success)
  • Checking GitHub forks of my project (no success, release notes are also missing there)
  • Restoring the tag with git fsck --unreachable (no success, old tags are not found)
  • Scanning GHTorrent for the data (still pending)

If there is a way to do it, you would have to contact GitHub support via the contact page or email so they could access your private account details. We won’t have access to that here.

I hope that helps!
