Any way for GitHub Pages internal links to recognize HTML files?

It would appear that a link such as [Visit foo](foo.md) is the only way to link to GitHub pages within a repo, even though I assume the generated page is actually foo.html on some level, right? Is there a way to get [Visit foo](foo.html) to link to foo.html when the GH Pages source file is foo.md?

Pages should already be automatically converting these links from .md to .html when your site is built and deployed. Is this not happening? If not, can you send a link where I can take a look?

Or are you meaning you’d like to link to the HTML version of the file from within your repository?
